About the Humanoid Sensor Consortium

The Humanoid Sensor Consortium will utilize the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine’s (WFIRM) “Body-on-a-Chip” system. This system allows scientists to engineer an advanced 3D model of the human body using a system of chips and microfluidic devices, creating a structure in which to place the humanoid tissue equivalents. These tissue equivalents function in a very similar manner as actual human organs. For example, the heart beats about 60 times each minute, the lung breathes the air from the surrounding environment, and the liver breaks down toxic compounds into harmless waste products.

The Regenerative Medicine Manufacturing Society (RMMS) is the world’s first and only professional organization dedicated solely to advancing the field of regenerative medicine through manufacturing. The mission is to identify unmet needs and gaps in regenerative medicine manufacturing and catalyze the generation of new ideas and solutions by partnering with private and public stakeholders.

About RMMS

Society members who represent industry, government, academia, and non-profit organizations share their knowledge and work together to create solutions to manufacturing challenges. The ultimate goal is to develop standardized manufacturing processes to facilitate the smooth and quick transition of new therapies to market for the benefit of patients. The society provides a platform through working groups that focus on four primary areas: (1) cell manufacturing, (2) standards, (3) 3D bioprinting, and (4) artificial intelligence enabled automation.

We are seeking to identify unmet needs in regenerative medicine manufacturing and develop solutions by bringing together leaders in the field across industry, academia, government, and non-profit organizations. One of the ways that we are doing this is through our working groups which focus on four areas: (1) cell manufacturing, (2) standards, (3) 3D bioprinting, and (4) artificial intelligence enabled automation. Our working groups seek to evaluate the current landscape of that area and work collaboratively with leaders and other groups in the field to arrive at solutions.

The Regenerative Manufacturing Innovation Consortium (RegMIC) is made up of more than 60 industry and academic members who are focused on making the advancement of the regenerative medicine field a reality.

About RegMIC

The consortium is based on the philosophy that pooling the talents, resources and ideas of members to tackle industry challenges offers the smoothest and most rapid path to advanced manufacturing. Members include thought leaders, representatives for leading U.S. research centers, and companies of all sizes. They work collaboratively to develop education and training programs in regenerative medicine and share their world-renowned core capabilities and talent to advance manufacturing.

RegMIC identifies and develops consensus on manufacturing challenges through road-mapping efforts and provides guidance on strategic funding areas. The consortium is based on the philosophy that pooling stakeholder talents, resources, and ideas to tackle industry-wide challenges can accelerate breakthroughs on critical regenerative medicine manufacturing challenges for the benefit of all. Member input and support has resulted in the successful leveraging of government and industry funds to support targeted solutions.
